Good to Great, by Jim Collins, is the book that has most influenced Vern Harnish's and Gazelles International thinking. Verne's book, Scaling Up references Good to Great many times and much of the Gazelles frameworks and methods has its roots in Jim's reasearch.
In this book, Jim and his team of researchers have analysed many companies that went from good to great and have compared them with similar companies that didn't quite make the transition. Throught this research, Jim has identified the key differentiations that allowed some companies to make the transition from just good to great whilst the comparison companies remained just good (or were acquired).
Jim introduces key principles such as "First Who, then What" and the "Hedgehog" concept and illustrates each principle with relevant case studies showing how the good to great companies implemented each principle and how this made a difference to their business.
